Portland ranked seventh best out of 182 U.S. cities in WalletHub’s study of the best places to find a job in 2018.
WalletHub determined its scores and rankings by using 26 key indicators of job-market strength, ranging from job opportunities to employment growth to monthly average starting salary.
WalletHub looked at a total of 182 cities for its survey, including 150 of the most populated in the United States, plus at least two of the most populated cities in each state. Only the city proper was considered in each case, excluding the surrounding metropolitan area.
Portland received a total score of 63.06, placing it between Plano, Texas, (No. 6) and Irvine, Calif., (No. 8) in the overall rankings.
Chandler, Ariz., topped the list at No. 1, while Shreveport, La., placed last at No. 182.
Lewiston, in the No. 62 spot, was the only other Maine city on the list. Boston was No. 10.
In terms of the most job opportunities, Portland was found to be fifth best.
