The online home furnishing retailer that plans to bring nearly 1,000 jobs to Maine has cleared a hurdle in the city of Bangor, where the company plans to bring 450 new jobs.
The Bangor City Council approved a lease agreement for the Boston-based e-commerce site to move into the soon-to-be-vacant L.L.Bean call center location with a unanimous vote by city officials.
According to The Bangor Daily News, the seven-year lease will have Wayfair paying $16,250 per month for rent with an increase to $17,725 after five years. The company also has two options for five-year lease extensions to the 30,000-square-foot building.
“450 full-time jobs with good pay is the definition of a success,” said Councilor Joe Baldacci, according to the BDN.
In addition to bringing 450 jobs to Bangor, Wayfair also announced plans last week to open a call center location in Brunswick that will bring 500 new jobs to the Brunswick Landing business campus, making it the single largest employer on the site.
