Owners have temporarily closed the Capt. Daniel Stone Inn and adjoining No. 10 Water Street restaurant in Brunswick, citing burst pipes, water damage and other problems related to recent severe weather.
The Times Record reported that the inn and restaurant, which were recently purchased and are under new management, will be closed until mid-February. The business initially closed Jan. 4 to make weather-related repairs and earlier had expected to reopen on Jan. 9.
Since then, the newspaper reported, owners Boston East India Hotels indicated the inn and restaurant would remain closed until Feb. 17, when renovations and improvements are expected to be completed. Boston East India Hotels purchased the 204-year-old property in September 2013 from previous owners John and Kim Verreault.
Some of the inn’s staff, estimated to be 10-12 people, have been laid off while repairs are being done.
The newspaper also reported that pipes recently froze and broke at the Joshua L. Chamberlain Museum near Bowdoin College, creating some water damage to the living room and one side of the parlor. Renovations and cleanup efforts continue there.
