Welch confirmed for PUC position

The Maine Senate has unanimously endorsed Gov. Paul LePage's nomination of energy attorney Thomas Welch to serve a six-year term on the Maine Public Utilities Commission.

Welch returns to the PUC after serving as its chairman from 1993 to 2005 and helping to create Maine's incentive regulation for major telephone utilities, according to a press release from Gov. Paul LePage's office. Prior to joining the PUC, Welch was chief deputy attorney general for antitrust in the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office, and most recently was a member of Portland law firm Pierce Atwood's energy and regulatory group.

Welch's service on the PUC begins immediately.
