The new owner of the Hallowell-based Kennebec Pizza in the city’s downtown is hoping that the impending construction on Water Street will make brick-oven-style pizza a hot commodity with hungry construction workers.
The pizza joint’s new owner, Kevin Hachey, told the Kennebec Journal that he acquired the business, equipment and inventory from Walker Investments, an investment group led by Hallowell Mayor Mark Walker’s children.
Before signing on the dotted line, Hachey told the newspaper he spoke to other business owners downtown about the impact that upcoming construction on Water Street could have on sales.
“I’ve talked to a few business owners about it, and anything that takes away from business will be a challenge,” Hachey told the paper. “Ideally, there’ll still be people that are going to want to eat.”
Those hungry people, Hachey hopes, will be construction workers looking to get a fresh slice of pizza and will spread the word to others about Kennebec Pizza.
