Winds knock out power for 28,000 Sunday

Around 5,000 remained without electricity early Monday after high winds and storms knocked out power to around 28,000 customers of Central Maine Power and Bangor Hydro Electric Sunday.

The Morning Sentinel reported that about 19,000 of the outages were in Franklin, Somerset, Kennebec, Lincoln and Sagadahoc counties. The National Weather Service expected wind gusts would reach up to 50 mph in some areas of the state.

The Associated Press reported that Oxford and Franklin counties had the highest portion of the lingering outages.
