Tranzon Auction Properties in Portland announced the promotion of Mike Carey to co-CEO.
Carey will be oversee the real estate firm's day-to-day operations and driving growth in its burgeoning auction business, working as co-CEO with Samantha Saturley Kelley, who is based in Westport, Conn.
Carey has been with the company since 2005, most recently as senior vice president. He holds real estate licenses in Maine and New Hampshire, and is a licensed auctioneer in Maine, New Hampshire, New York City, Massachusetts and Vermont.
His has experience in commercial, residential and special use properties, with transactions exceeding $400 million.
Carey grew up in the real estate and auction industries. His mother owned a brokerage and his father published the Rick Carey Car Collector Auction Report, an independent analysis of the prices and activity of auto auctions. Various aspects of managing properties and understanding the auction process caught Carey’s attention at a young age.
He is a 2005 graduate of Mendenhall School of Auctioneering and a 2009 graduate of the National Auctioneer Association Certified Auctioneer Institute.
A Portland resident, he is active in the community as a co-chair of the Maine Chapter of the Turnaround Management Association, supervisory board member at Town & Country Credit Union, founding member and former chair of PROPEL, and member of the National Auctioneer Association, Realtors, American Bankruptcy Institute and National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees.
"I’ve watched him transition into executive leadership and take on new challenges over the years and have no doubt in my mind that the company is in good hands to propel forward,” said Tom Saturley, Tranzon’s founder. Saturley will remain active in Tranzon Auction Properties and Ocala, Fla., real estate auction firm Tranzon Driggers as board chair.
Tranzon began in 1997 as a group of real estate auctioneers and became a nationwide network with a team of real estate, marketing and auction professionals.
