A Holden woman will serve three and a half years in prison for stealing more than $400,000 through the sale of mobile home sales.
Tammy Barker, formerly Tammy Sproul, was sentenced last week for misappropriating funds from the sale of 17 mobile homes between 2005 and 2006, while she was operating Sproul's Home Center in Holden, according to a press release from Attorney General William Schneider. The bulk of the transactions involved mobile homes from the Brunswick Naval Air Station, the proceeds of which would have been used to improve housing for U.S. Navy sailors stationed there. Four transactions involved individual sellers who signed consignment agreements with Barker, and lost their homes and the money from the sales due to Barker's actions.
Barker, who gambled the stolen funds at Hollywood Slots, was sentenced to eight years with all but three and a half years suspended, as well as restitution of $81,126 to the four individuals. Barker has two prior felony theft convictions from 1991 and 1992, and was previously sentenced to 18 months of home confinement.
