Wright-Pierce, which has 55 licensed engineers in Maine, has promoted its executive vice president to the role of president and CEO.
Paul Birkel will succeed John Braccio, who is now a chairman of the board and strategic advisor. Braccio has been with the company for 39 years.
Birkel has been with Wright-Pierce for over three decades. During his time as executive vice president, he was also the wastewater practice group leader. He has been transitioning into his new role for the past five years.
“I started my career at Wright-Pierce in 1990 and have experienced four CEO transitions during that time, this one included,” said Birkel. “Our plan is to remain a legacy firm for our employees and our focus on succession planning and ownership transition affords us this luxury. While each new CEO brings different initiatives and ideas to the table, I plan to focus on our people, our processes, and maintaining technical excellence in our work products as we grow and expand into new geographic areas.”
Birkel received his bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Maine and received his master's in business administration from Southern New Hampshire University.
