York Hospital is partnering with Northeast Rehabilitation Network to build a 20,000-square-foot addition to the hospital to serve as a 20-bed acute rehabilitation center.
The York Weekly reported that the project is the largest undertaken by York Hospital in 35 years and would meet the needs of patients requiring orthopedic, neurological and cardiac rehabilitation.
York Hospital President and CEO Jud Knox told the newspaper that Northeast Rehabilitation, which has an acute care facility at Pease International Tradeport in Portsmouth, N.H., approached the hospital about partnering due to the “high demand and the backlog of need for these services.”
York Weekly reported that the project faces review and hearings before the local planning board and selectmen later this month. It also would need a certificate of need from the Maine Department of Health and Human Services.
If successful in obtaining local and state approvals, Knox told the newspaper the partners hope to break ground on the facility in the fall.
