Poll results

Gov. Janet Mills recently has toughened Maine's requirements for the use of protective face masks at many businesses across the state, including restaurants, bars, hotels and retailers in seven counties.

In June, a poll by the Southern Maine Midcoast Chamber found that while half of Maine consumers won't patronize a business because of inadequate social distancing, 21% of those surveyed balked at being required to wear a mask in a business establishment. Instead, they said they'd leave.

A coalition of Maine business groups has begun asking consumers to "be kind" by respecting such public health rules.

Yes I feel we need to wear masks to protect ourselves and to protect other people too. What if we run out of people who make sure the stores have food or people who work in the hospitals. We should see the responsibility we all have in just protecting each other..........if you dont then something's wrong............

Masks create uncertainty and a bit of fear while hiding facial expressions; clear shields retain the ability to 'read' facial expressions and are more neutral. Masking is an aid to thieves in retail settings.

Well for those wondering or asking if it is against the law or unconstitutional, is isn't and in-fact is enforceable to make folks wear a mask. It is NOT unconstitutional and should anyone want to waste their time in court - you will lose, sorry, wear a mask for yourself, your loved ones, and the rest of us who don't want to get sick or die

As a small business owner who is also high risk, I wear a mask and I enforce it in my store. I appreciate that some people cannot wear them and I offer them alternative shopping experiences as I WILL NOT potentially compromise my health because someone can't wear a mask.

I have no issue with wearing a face mask, and will continue to wear it in public places. The issue is who will enforce it, and is it against a person's constitutional rights? It is not fair to ask store employees to become the mask police, since they do not want to lose customers or have to deal with the confrontation with customers. Until it is a law, it is a mere suggestion.
