On Tuesday, Gov. Janet Mills announced that private campgrounds and RV parks in Maine can reopen for the Memorial Day weekend, sooner than the date originally planned, June 1. However, she also postponed the reopening of gyms, fitness centers and nail salons.
Both decisions modify the timetable Mills introduced April 29 to allow the state's businesses to gradually resume operations, sector by sector. Many have been shuttered for almost two months in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19.
In Tuesday's announcement, Mills said the delayed opening of gyms, fitness centers and nail salons is based on new evidence about the risk of transmitting the disease via those businesses. The reopening timetable is flexible and is being updated "when necessary in order both to protect public health and support our economy."

Telling campgrounds to open a couple of days before the holiday weekend does almost nothing. They had to cancel all of their reservations, and it gave the public no warning about making their holiday plans. We were supposed to flatten the curve, not hide in waiting until the virus was cured. God speed Maine!
