Poll results

Higher education is a big business, as the June 24 issue of Mainebiz makes clear.

Schools are investing more in resources for students. Nonprofits like the Rockland-based Worthington Scholarship Foundation are doing more to help with rising tuition.

Increasingly, money is also going to education focused on careers — even if a diploma isn't involved.

Last week, for example, the Maine Community College System announced it will receive $75.5 million from the Harold Alfond Foundation to expand short-term workforce training.

All of this can make you wonder: What's the ROI of a college education?

Editor's Note: In recognition of Independence Day, Mainebiz will not publish the Daily Report on July 4 or the Weekly Report on July 5. So instead of seeing poll results in those issues, remember, you'll still get the ballot breakdown when you cast your vote.

Fill in the blank: In general, the cost of a four-year college education is ...
Worth it, even if you have to borrow money. (58%, 189 VOTES)
Worth it, but only if you don't have to take out a loan. (21%, 70 VOTES)
Just not worth it. (21%, 67 VOTES)
