Like most businesses, Mainebiz is taking the day off on Thursday in order to celebrate Thanksgiving. We'll also be off on Friday, and then returning to our regular operations and publication schedule on Monday, Dec. 2.
The day after Thanksgiving, also known as Black Friday, has increasingly become an extension of the holiday. In fact, 20 states have designated the fourth Friday in November as a state holiday. They include Maine, where state workers will be enjoying a break.
But Friday won't be so relaxed for many Maine businesses. Black Friday is traditionally a busy day for retailers, some of whom extend their hours to launch the holiday shopping season.
