Mainers — and residents of all states except Arizona and Hawaii, which don't observe daylight saving time — will get an extra hour of sleep when the timekeeping standard ends this Sunday, Nov. 1, at 2 a.m.

In recent years, lawmakers including the Maine Legislature have considered making DST permanent. Advocates on both sides of the idea have made strong cases, citing effects of the clock changes on human health, traffic accidents, crime and more.

How do you feel about year-round daylight saving time, and "springing ahead" once and for all?

Would Mainers be better off if we didn't have to reset clocks twice a year because of daylight saving time?

I seem to remember that they tried doing year round DST and it was problematic for many reasons. Kids were going to school in the dark, hours before daylight. I would say, just leave it alone. no DST at all.

Yes, this antiquated process needs to be punted back to the 19th century. Furthermore, I'd be supportive of moving Maine to The Atlantic time zone.

We should have Standard time all year long; not Daylight Savings Time. The poll question is tricky; "Yes," I agree we would be better off if we didn't have to reset our clocks twice per year, but "no," I do not believe it should be DST all year long but rather it should be Standard time all year long. The poll question may imply that answering "yes" means you believe it should be DST.

What is the point. It's original intent is no longer applicable. One time all year forever!

In theory it's a great idea. In practicality, to be in a different time zone for half the year than all of our closest neighboring states would be a nightmare from a business perspective.
