The Hews Co. LLC, established in 1927 by Roland C. Hews, has continued to prosper for over 95 years. As a fourth-generation, family-owned company, we attribute success to following the latest market trends, and forging strong relationships with our customers, vendors, and employees. A distributor of truck-mounted equipment throughout New England, we also manufacture custom bodies to fit customer demands. This, along with our service and parts department, make us a one-stop shop.
Products: Truck bodies, including custom-builds, dump, platform/stake, van, mechanic/service, and lube. We also install truck-mounted cranes, liftgates, and suspensions. Related products and accessories include “power take-offs” and hydraulic systems and components, van interiors, ladder racks, safety and strobe lighting systems, toolboxes, load covers, winches, auxiliary fuel tanks and trailer accessories.
Markets/Customers: Heavy Equipment dealers, commercial truck dealers, energy/propane, construction (heavy and general), transportation, building supply, forestry, marine. Representative customers: Hancock Lumber, Hammond Lumber, Eldredge Lumber, Sigco, Dead River, Shaw Brothers, Pike, State of Maine, Fences Unlimited, Portland Glass, Lucas Tree.
Career/Job Opportunities: Hews Co. is continually looking to add truck equipment technicians (installation and repair), welders, and fabricators to our team.
Company Benefits: Health, dental, and life insurance, short-term disability benefits; 401K retirement/profit sharing plan. Paid vacation, sick leave, flexible work schedule. Company events and luncheons. Tuition and education reimbursement.
Internship Program: Paid internships through PATHS Program, Eastern Maine Community College, and in-house mentoring. Hews Co. always welcomes interns to come learn and grow!
Community Engagement: Hews Co. is very involved with the community and local charity events. We contribute annually to United Way of Southern Maine, donate to local food banks, and offer sponsorship of professional associations’ educational scholarships. Hews Co. supports Hospice of Sothern Maine, Walk to End Alzheimer’s, Special Olympics Maine, as well as eight New Hampshire charities annually through the organization the Guys Who Give a $hit of New Hampshire. Along with this, several of our technicians are coaches for local school sports/academic teams.
Sustainability: Hews Co. manages environmental matters as an integral part of our business planning and decisions. Paper products, cardboard, aluminum and scrap metal produced in our facilities are collected and recycled. Waste oil is also collected for recycling as a heating fuel or disposal by a licensed environmental contractor. Other hazardous waste products are collected and turned over to a licensed environmental contractor to prevent release to the environment.
