ILAP will continue to provide our core immigration legal services in 2021, including direct legal services and educational outreach for more than 3,000 Mainers (remotely when necessary), and to advance equity and justice for immigrants through our systemic advocacy with partner organizations and local immigrant-led groups.
We will also launch a new “Immigrant Children’s Project,” which will expand access to legal representation for vulnerable immigrant children and youth across Maine. And we will continue to respond to the substantial need for asylum legal services through pro bono representation, application assistance, and workshops for people applying for asylum without an attorney.
In addition, we will deepen our presence online and in Lewiston and rural Maine to bring accessible immigration legal services closer to where more of the state’s immigrant communities live, work, and study.
ILAP is proud to host our signature fundraising event — CeleSoirée — each year. We gather hundreds of supporters for an unforgettable evening featuring delicious immigrant-owned restaurants and performances that highlight the diverse cultural traditions of our state.
Corporate sponsorship is critical to the success of this event, and businesses can show their support for immigration legal services in Maine and receive recognition for their generous partnership.
Donors may purchase tickets for themselves or for the Community Ticket Fund, which offers free event admission to the client community members, partners, and volunteers who make ILAP’s work possible.
Volunteers support all aspects of ILAP’s work through their dedication and commitment to our mission. We are actively recruiting volunteer attorneys to our Pro Bono Panel to provide life-changing, and in many cases life-saving, representation to individuals seeking asylum and to immigrant youth who qualify for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status.
We are also looking for individuals who are fluent in English and another language, especially Arabic, French, Lingala, Portuguese, and Spanish, to assist with remote interpretation and translation. To learn more about volunteer opportunities, please visit www.ilapmaine.org/volunteer.
