In 1960, Kennebec Mental Health Association was incorporated to promote a comprehensive community mental health program for the community of Kennebec County. This brand-new organization, which was housed in rented space at Thayer Hospital in Waterville, began its journey toward providing high quality community-based prevention, education, treatment, medication management, emergency shelter, outreach, rehabilitation, substance abuse and mental health programs throughout Central Maine and beyond.
For 60 years, the agency has envisioned and worked toward a community in which everyone enjoys physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health–and remains in pursuit of that goal.
Kennebec Behavioral Health will be hosting its 4th Annual “A Night Out” comedy show on Saturday, November 7. This year the event will be virtual, and will feature The River Comics therivercomics.com as well as an on-line themed basket raffle and 50/50 raffle. More details are on KBH’s website at kbhmaine.org. Funds raised through the event will benefit KBH’s College Scholarship Program.
As we consider that Kennebec Behavioral Health has been here providing services in Central Maine for 60 years, it is nothing less than spectacular! Since the inception of KBH, much has changed in the delivery, funding, research, and understanding of how mental health services play a role in our greater healthcare system. To that end, we have aspired to be responsive and effective in our work. We are grateful for the work we do and the support we have received from so many.
— Tom McAdam, Kennebec Behavioral Health Chief Executive Officer
Nearly everyone has a friend or family member that is or has struggled with mental illness and/or substance use disorder. Gifts to KBH can be restricted to a specific program or kept unrestricted to go where the need is greatest, such as the Homeless Youth Outreach Program or Substance Use Disorder Prevention programing. Every gift that is made is someone’s next step toward recovery. One-time, annual or planned gifts can be arranged by contacting Tina Chapman, Development & Communications Director at 207-873-2136 ext. 1022, tchapman@kbhmaine.org or kbhmaine.org.
Kennebec Behavioral Health offers opportunities for those interested in volunteering at the Board level. We have four separate corporations — KBH Programs and Services, Kennebec Mental Health Associates (KMHA) Foundation, KMHA Real Estate, and the KMHA Parent Board.
