Kennebec Valley Community Action Program (KVCAP)

2024 Goals

KVCAP’s primary goal has not changed in 58 years – to create sustainable solutions to poverty for individuals, families and communities.

KVCAP’s four overarching strategic goals (2022-2025) are to:

1. Strengthen systemic infrastructure to support organizational growth.

2. Increase availability of safe and affordable housing.

3. Increase family stability through a whole family approach.

4. Enhance transportation options in Kennebec and Somerset counties.

Fundraising events/Opportunities

The Department of Education determined that a new elementary school in Skowhegan is critical for the region. The $75.44 million construction project broke ground in 2023. Skowhegan’s new school will serve children from birth through 5th grade, providing continuity for children and families. The design includes a dedicated early childhood wing influenced by the Educare Central Maine model. This is a first for a Maine Department of Education new school construction project! A $3 million fundraising campaign for the early childhood wing is underway to support the build and fund quality programming provided by KVCAP Head Start and Childcare. Join us in Building Better Beginnings that will serve as a model to fuel expansion of this concept throughout Maine. FMI, visit kvcap.org or contact Tracye Fortin at (207) 859-1616.

Giving Opportunities

We have several giving opportunities at KVCAP. To learn more, contact Andrea Pasco at andreap@kvcap.org.

Donors can make a one-time or recurring gift on our website: kvcap.org.

KVCAP holds annual appeals in the spring and fall to raise unrestricted funds to support agency capacity. Donors may also choose to designate their gift to a specific program or initiative.

Employer matching gifts, planned gifts and gifts of stock are always welcomed.

Become a Community Investor! Sign up and receive a weekly email highlighting a specific need when no other resource exists. Investors are lifesavers, financially contributing to address situations that threaten an individual’s or family’s stability. Common requests are for car repairs, security deposits and medical items.

Volunteer Opportunities

KVCAP is always seeking new volunteer drivers for our Transportation Department. Drivers are reimbursed for their mileage, bringing people to and from medical appointments. Our South End Teen Center in Waterville accepts volunteers who are willing to dedicate their time engaging with members, sharing a talent or passion and providing homework support. Our Social Services Department is recruiting volunteers to help sort and package diaper donations and baby clothing.
