As MCH enters its 125th year in 2024, the organization will continue to evolve with the changing needs of Maine families and children through its programs in adoption, counseling, young-parent support, winter assistance and caregiver resources. The secret to MCH’s longevity is its ability to evolve with community.
MCH will also continue to develop and integrate trauma-informed approaches into its programs and practices, promoting a greater sense of safety for all – clients and staff. The organization is committed to expanding the reach of its family and client-focused resources through educational opportunities in the community and with community partners. MCH’s Connected Families Project, for example, will continue to offer resources, workshops and training on issues most important and relevant to Maine parents, adolescents, teachers and caregivers.
MCH serves more than 3,000 people through its five core programs:
MCH supporters across the state raise resources for the MCH mission – to build and strengthen families and their children – including the Friends of Maine Children’s Home (the Friends). The Friends is an organization focused on raising funds and providing volunteers to support MCH programs, holding a Lobster Roll Lunch fundraiser each fall and engaging volunteers to support the annual Christmas Program.
Corporate support is essential to meeting annual needs. Anyone interested in learning more about sponsorship opportunities can reach the development team at MCH by calling or emailing Marketing and Communications Director Chelsea Ellis at (207) 873-4253 ext. 282 or cellis@mainechildrenshome.org.
MCH welcomes charitable gifts and donations that meet personal and corporate philanthropic and legacy-building goals.
MCH typically welcomes volunteers from local schools, colleges, civic clubs and businesses to complete activities and projects for MCH programs. Volunteers can contribute through the following:

MMCH builds and strengthens families and their children, instilling hope for the future and a better quality of life. The organization achieves this mission through a trauma-informed approach, creating a greater sense of safety for the children, adults, families, caregivers, teachers and communities that MCH works with, and for MCH staff.
While most of the children, youth, and families served by Maine Children’s Home (MCH) are from Kennebec and Somerset counties, MCH’s five core programs are offered across the state of Maine. MCH’s campus is located in Waterville.
