Maine Veterans’ Homes

2020 Goals

MVH is committed to being a Provider of Choice, an Employer of Choice, and a Veterans Advocate. Providing exceptional and expert care for veterans, their spouses and Gold Star parents continues to be at the forefront of all that we do at Maine Veterans’ Homes, while providing comfort and healing to the Veteran population. Whether it’s long term care or rehabilitative services, our team develops customized care plans for each resident, guided by our Mission of “Caring for those who served,” and our Core Values: Honesty & Integrity, Veterans are Unique, Respect, Excellence, Teamwork, and Leadership.

We are continuing our efforts to modernize our facilities to meet the growing needs of our Veterans, and will continue to work on a new replacement facility for our Augusta Home, which was our first Home that opened in 1983. This new Home, which includes all private resident rooms, modern state of the art facilities and technology, will open in 2021 under the Small House model of care.

Fundraising events/Opportunities

As an independent nonprofit organization, Maine Veterans’ Homes relies on the generosity of individuals and organizations to help us provide activities and programs to improve the health and enjoyment of our residents. On our website you can download a copy of our Community Fundraising Guide that provides fundraising tips to support Maine Veterans. In addition to community events, we also have a number of fundraising events at each of our Homes including our two largest, the Maine Vets 5K (held each August in Scarborough) and the ME Vets Annual Car Show (held in July at MVH Bangor). Each of our Homes also have “wish lists” that are frequently updated, providing ways for those interested to support Maine Veterans with gifts from $10 to $10,000,000.

Giving Opportunities

Annually Maine Veteran’s Homes sends out appeal letters seeking support for our Homes and Resident Activities Funds. Our largest appeal is sent out in November and includes our annual Heroes Calendar where we feature photos and the life stories of two residents from each of our Homes. You can sign up to join this mailing list on our website.

Each of our Homes accepts gifts of cash and checks at the front desks. We frequently accept gifts in kind, but we do ask that you call in advance so we can make sure we are the best recipient of your item(s). Gifts via credit card can be made at the Homes or securely on our website. Our Development Office also works with donors who are interested in making estate donations, setting up an endowment or an annuity, donating real estate, etc.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteering for a day or a lifetime can be rewarding for the volunteers and residents at Maine Veterans’ Homes. We frequently have businesses and service organizations that help with cookouts and events as well as individuals who become part of our MVH volunteer team. Our residents benefit from the integration of these well trained, highly caring and deeply committed volunteers with MVH staff members. Volunteer opportunities include event helpers, escorts on outings, visiting/companionship, mail delivery, appointment driver, music, gardening, arts, crafts, reading, etc. If you would like one of our activities coordinators to contact you about becoming a volunteer, please fill out a brief info contact sheet on our website.
