Pine Tree Legal Assistance

2020 Goals

Pine Tree Legal Assistance is committed to enforcing legal protections for Maine’s most vulnerable residents and making the justice system more accessible for all Mainers, regardless of income.

Pine Tree seeks to continually assess the most pressing civil legal problems facing low-income Mainers. Our priorities for 2019 are:

  • The preservation of housing and related housing needs;
  • Maintaining, enhancing and protecting income and economic stability;
  • Promoting safety, health, and well-being;
  • Improving outcomes for Maine children and youth;
  • Enforcing workplace opportunities, income and legal protections for low-wage workers;
  • Meeting the legal needs of populations with other vulnerabilities; and
  • Improving the delivery of legal services and justice for low - income Mainers statewide.

Fundraising events/Opportunities

Pine Tree Legal Assistance hosts several of events each year. Our major fundraising events are:

  • Our Winter Warm Up is a great opportunity to meet other justice loving people while enjoying local food and drinks. Look for this event in late winter!
  • Our Raise the Barn for Justice event is coming up on September 28th at The Barn at Smith Farm. The event features a family style dinner, live music and dancing! More information is available at ptla.org/raise-the-barn.

Volunteer Opportunities

Pine Tree welcomes pro bono assistance from attorneys around the state in various practice areas. Pine Tree also hosts several law students and undergraduate students for semester or summer internships. Popular pro bono opportunities include:

  • Lawyer-of-the-Day Courthouse “Pick Ups”
  • Veterans Panel
  • Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC)
  • Maine Attorneys Saving Homes (MASH)
  • In-House Attorney Volunteers working at PTLA offices
  • Support or Co-counsel
