Eighty years ago, Pine Tree Society started as a bold new idea. Its founders had a vision: to meet the unmet needs of Maine people with disabilities through innovative services. Their vision and foresight has set Pine Tree Society on a long-term path of growth.
Today, we continue to grow and evolve to effectively address needs and transform more lives. In 2020 Pine Tree Society is poised to continue to expand its services designed to help Maine people with disabilities with a focus supporting young adults, and their families, transition from school to adulthood. At the same time, we are working to bring the magic and impact of Pine Tree Camp to other Pine Tree Society programs with a focus of immersion in nature and the outdoors and barrier-free recreation.
Pine Tree Society continues its commitment to ensure that the Pine Tree Camp experience is available to all who can benefit regardless of their ability to pay tuition. Pine Tree Camp’s Open Door Policy translates into the need to raise $1 million on an annual basis.
Pine Tree Society’s special events are focused on raising money to support Pine Tree Camp’s Campership Fund. Since it opened in 1945, Pine Tree Camp has welcomed all who could benefit from a barrier-free summer camp opportunity regardless of their ability to pay the $1,900 tuition. Last year, Pine Tree Camp provided nearly 99% of its 650 campers with full or partial tuition assistance. This commitment translates into the need to raise $1 million on an annual basis.
Dysart’s Snowmobile Ride-in to benefit Pine Tree Camp -- February 1, 2020 – Join celebrity riders from Q106.5 as they journey from Levant to Hermon to raise money for Pine Tree Camp.
Paddle for Pine Tree Camp -- June 6, 2020 - The 24th Annual Paddle for Pine Tree Camp features a family-friendly paddle on the Kennebec River, ending with a cookout overlooking the water. Start a workplace team to promote team building, community involvement and employee wellness.
Pine Tree Society’s long history of transforming the lives of Maine people with disabilities has been made possible thanks to the generous support of thousands of donors from across Maine and beyond. The business community can continue to make a difference in the lives of Maine people served by Pine Tree Society–and feel good about their investment.
Pine Tree Society has a full range of meaningful volunteer opportunities that directly impact Maine people with disabilities. Whether it is helping to maintain Maine’s only accessible tree house, leading a group activity for adults with developmental disabilities or supporting the Paddle for Pine Tree Camp by acting as a water safety escort, there is something for everyone–regardless of skill level and time availability.
