United Way of Kennebec Valley

United Way of Kennebec Valley volunteers LIVE UNITED.

2025 Goals

In 2024, United Way of Kennebec Valley (UWKV) funded 59 nonprofit and school-based partner programs throughout the 29 towns of Kennebec Valley — helping more than 37,750 people access health care, education and financial stability. In total, UWKV provides support for 1 in 3 local people. Every fall, UWKV raises money for these programs through its annual fundraising campaign. Because of heightened levels of need related to the rising costs of living, UWKV has increased its fundraising goal to $2 million.

This year, UWKV and United Ways across Maine are focusing on spotlighting ALICE during the annual campaign season. ALICE – Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed – are part of the 42% of Maine households that fall below what is known as the ALICE Threshold, not making enough to afford a basic cost of living. ALICE households and households in poverty are forced to make tough choices, such as deciding between quality child care or paying rent – choices that have long-term consequences not only for their families, but for all. ALICE is our “why,” and we are working every day to lift ALICE up. This fall, UWKV is making ALICE UNIGNORABLE.

Fundraising events/Opportunities

Every fall, UWKV runs an annual fundraising campaign to support its nonprofit and school-based partner programs. Additionally, United Way hosts several annual fundraising events including:

  • Annual Golf Scramble, hosted in early August, is UWKV’s largest fundraiser — raising more than $23,000 in 2024, where 31 businesses sponsored and 30 teams played in the tournament.

  • UWKV’s Campaign Kickoff is hosted every September, marking the official launch of the fundraising season. More than 3,500 donors and over 140 businesses pledge support each year.

  • The Impact2032 Summit, on Nov. 19, 2024, will bring together community leaders, change-makers and visionaries to shape the future of the Kennebec Valley region.

Giving Opportunities

UWKV works to build strong, healthy communities, give all kids equal opportunities, and improve financial stability for everyone – creating a thriving Kennebec County. We invest in local health and human service programs focused on prevention, wellness, early education and economic well-being. Businesses can support the community by partnering with us for workplace campaigns, making corporate gifts, donating through the 365 Small Business Circle or sponsoring UWKV events. Research shows that corporate community involvement helps attract, engage and retain high-performing employees, while also increasing job satisfaction.
