Waban

2020 Goals

Throughout its 50-year history, Waban has continuously responded to the needs of the community by developing and providing essential supports for children and adults with disabilities. This mission and service-driven focus has led to a broad and comprehensive spectrum of programs. Last year alone, Waban provided over 870,000 hours of service to its members—ensuring they live happy and fulfilling lives, as independently as possible.

Looking forward to 2020, our goals are to:

  • Respond to the increasing incidence of autism in children (1 in 68) by expanding our evidence-based, therapeutic, specialized school classrooms to preschool through 4th grade;
  • Provide more opportunities for individuals to enjoy and utilize our handicapped accessible waterfront (Camp Waban);
  • Broaden independence in residential living options by leveraging technology;
  • Increase the number and skill levels of our dedicated and committed staff through targeted workforce development, enhanced trainings, availability of career ladders, and broader growth opportunities; and
  • Continue to be a beacon of light to those in need and provide a source of comfort, hope, and inspiration.

Fundraising events/Opportunities

  • Waban’s foremost fundraising event is the Annual Waban Telethon, benefitting Waban’s Fraser-Ford Child Development Center and its Children’s Case Management Services. Each year, the event is live streamed online and TV, and features musicians, dancers, and other live entertainment with plenty of food, raffles, and items to bid on.
  • Waban also host its annual Tee Up and Drive Golf Tournament every September. All funds raised at the golf tournament support Waban’s athletes at the Maine Special Olympics.
  • Annually, Waban facilitates a direct-mail and online fund drive. A donation to the fund drive automatically enrolls donors as members of the Waban Association. Proceeds of the fund drive benefit all Waban programs.
Waban staff and program participants celebrate as they depart to the Maine Special Olympics Games.
