$10M for energy projects coming to Maine

Maine is receiving nearly $10 million in federal stimulus funds for energy efficiency and conservation projects in the state.

The U.S. Department of Energy is awarding Maine $9.5 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for both municipal and commercial energy projects, according to a release from the DOE. About 60% of the funding will go to cities and counties to launch financial incentive programs for energy upgrades, perform energy efficiency retrofits and install renewable energy technology on government buildings. The remaining funds will be doled out as grants for large-scale commercial projects, such as insulation and heating efficiency improvements, and efficiency controls and automation.

The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant money will save or create more than 100 jobs, according to the release.
