$1.7M slated for BNAS reuse

Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority is receiving $1.7 million in federal money to help redevelop the former Brunswick Naval Air Station for civilian use.

U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree yesterday announced the funding from the Economic Development Administration, which will fund construction of infrastructure and facility improvements to convert the base, now known as Brunswick Landing. Improvements will help redevelopment officials attract new companies and jobs to the property, Pingree said.

The base was officially decommissioned in May, and Brunswick Landing is already home to a handful of businesses, including Kestrel Aircraft, Bowdoin College, Southern Maine Community College, Molnlycke Health Care and American Bureau of Shipping.
