Significant professional accomplishment: Returning to an undergraduate program after a nine-month-long deployment to Afghanistan and excelling through it, which led to being admitted, and subsequently graduating from law school.
Passion project: Being able to provide legal and financial guidance and assistance to veterans across the state. I was working with the Maine Bureau of Consumer Credit Protection, a state regulatory agency. It publishes annual financial related pieces that target specific issues in the state. When I was working there, I wanted to help produce a financial guide that was tailored toward Maine’s 100,000-plus veterans, highlighting programs and benefits available to them. I was the co-author of the guide and hundreds of copies made their way around the state. I am not sure of one specific example in which the guide helped a veteran, but I do know that the reception was well received and the bureau received dozens of calls asking for more. I can only hope that it did help veterans take steps towards financial stability.
Audacious goal: To become a leader in my field.
