$75M proposed for Portsmouth shipyard

The House Armed Services Committee is considering as much as $75 million in funding for projects at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

The Department of Defense has requested $42 million for consolidation and modernization of the shipyard's heavy metal structural work facilities and $26.3 million for continued work on the waterfront support facility approved by Congress last year, according to Seacoast Online. New Hampshire District 1 Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter is also pushing for another $7 million for antiterrorism measures. Both Shea-Porter and Maine District 1 Congresswoman Chellie Pingree are on the House committee and are working to get the funding approved, according to the website.

The committee is expected to release its own bill with funding allocations in May, which will then go to the House Appropriations Committee.
