A Look Back: Four years later, Maine’s fastest-growing companies have taken off

In its Nov. 16, 2015, issue Mainebiz honored the state’s fastest-growing companies. Of the nine companies honored, three have since been sold or have merged. Apothecary By Design, the winner in the large company category, was sold to CVS Health in January 2018. Putney Inc. was sold to UK-based Dechra Holdings in 2016, for $200 million. Covetrus, which was then known as Vets First Choice, merged with Henry Schein Animal Health early this year, creating a company with annual sales of $4 billion.

Fun fact: We take electronic banking for granted, but in March 1997, Mainebiz had a story outlining some of the changes we could look forward to. One bank’s software, the story pointed out, would allow customers “to access their accounts via computer and modem. Using software the bank provides, customers will be able to call up their accounts, check their balances, transfer funds from one account to another and even pay bills.” If only there was an app for that.
