Luxury camping — or “glamping” — is all the rage in Maine, and now it’s coming to Acadia.
Terramor Outdoor Resort, a 60-acre "glampground," will open next summer in Bar Harbor, according to a news release.
The resort, on the west side of Mount Desert Island near Acadia National Park, will feature 64 “rustic-luxe” canvas tents. Each is "designed to blend the aesthetics of nature with the comforts of an upscale hotel room," the release said.
Tents are equipped with premium beds and linens, coffeemakers and other amenities, private verandas and campfire rings. Most tents will have en suite bathrooms, and some will offer private outdoor showers.
Terramor will also include a lodge with a bar and restaurant, a store with equipment rentals, a dog park, recreation areas and a pool.
The resort will be launched by Kampgrounds of America Inc., which claims to be the world's largest organization of private campgrounds.
"Our vision for Terramor Outdoor Resort focuses on the heart of hospitality through upscale, yet authentic experiences that create a unique opportunity for travelers to explore and immerse themselves in the outdoors," Kampgrounds President and CEO Toby O'Rourke said in the release.
"The name Terramor blends 'land' and 'love,' which reflects our approach to personalized hospitality and celebrating the benefits of time spent in nature."
The company recently commissioned a study of the glamping trend, and found that over the past two years, 30% of all leisure travelers have taken a trip that they define as glamping.
Recently, similar glamping resorts have opened in Durham, Kennebunkport and Sanford.
