A property with its head in the clouds: Limington Airport

Courtesy / Keller Williams Realty The Limington Airport has a nearly 3,000-foot runway and houses about 67 planes and one helicopter.

About 30 miles west of Portland, Limington Airport offers its own runway, hangar buildings, a restaurant and airplane tenants, all for an asking price of $2.5 million.

The airport, whose owner is retiring, has a nearly 3,000-foot-long asphalt runway and houses 67 planes and one helicopter, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The York county airport sits on about 43 acres.

“It’s a unique property. But I’ve sold a lot of unique properties over the years. I’ve sold a tourmaline mine and 1,700 acres. At some point, the right time and the right person come together,” said Kevin Fletcher, of the Fletcher Group, part of Keller Williams Realty.

The airport is considered a residential “airpark,” which means it’s connected to a nearby housing subdivision on the south side of the airport.

“The idea was that you could land on the runway and taxi to your house,” Fletcher said.

There are about 600 such airparks in the U.S.

There has been interest in the Limington airport from both in-state and out-of-state buyers, Fletcher said. One cannabis cultivator wanted to locate there, he said.

“There’s been a few offers on the property that haven’t quite come together,” Fletcher said. “It takes time to find the right buyer sometimes.”

The airport has six buildings, four pad sites for future hangar construction, land for further development, two plow trucks and a runway sweeper, according to the property listing.

The airport has been on the market for about a year. The asking price started at $2.75 million, but dropped to the current price of $2.5 million, Fletcher said.

“It makes the most sense to maintain it for aviation purposes, with side businesses on the property,” Fletcher said. “The likelihood that someone would want to eliminate the runway is pretty slim.”

The property taxes in 2020 were about $3,200. The airport also sells more than $35,000 worth of fuel a year to pilots, according to the property listing.
