A Yarmouth restaurant that has been a dining mainstay for the past decade is up for sale, the owner announced this weekend.
Matthew Chappell, who launched the restaurant in downtown Yarmouth a decade ago, made the announcement in a Facebook post and in an email to customers.
“After nearly a decade of owning and operating Gather, I have begun the process to find a new buyer that will lead Gather for the next 10 years. I’m excited about new challenges ahead for me personally, and equally committed to finding a new owner who will carry the restaurant forward,” Chappell wrote in a Facebook post Sunday morning.
The restaurant is known for its rustic interior and for sourcing ingredients from local farms and purveyors. Its Sunday brunch features live music, a bluegrass group called the Gather Rounders, with the same core of musicians that have been there much of the restaurant's existence. In the past year, the musicians moved their performances to the front lawn, even performing with masks on.
Chappell is one of four kids of Tom and Kate Chappell, founders of Tom’s of Maine. He has been a quiet but constant presence at the restaurant, often seating customers and even serving tables where needed. In his Facebook post, he vowed to keep the restaurant’s standards in place while a buyer is being located.
“Rest assured, Gather will continue to operate as it has during this transition — bringing you Maine ingredients from all those amazing farmers, brewers, oyster growers, tortilla makers, and more.
The restaurant occupies a leased building at 189 Main St., Yarmouth, and the business is listed for sale at $225,000.
The broker handling the sale is Kirk Butterfield of Keller Williams.
