Acadia Corp. loses court appeal over concession contract

The Bar Harbor-based Acadia Corp., which held the concessions contract for Acadia National Park for more than 80 years, has lost its court appeal to win back the contract from a New Mexico company.

The Mount Desert Islander reported that a federal claims judge on Friday dismissed Acadia Corp.’s complaint against the National Park Service’s award of the contract to Dawnland LLC, a subsidiary of the New Mexico-based Ortega National Parks LLC. The company holds in-park concessions contracts in Death Valley, Hawaii Volcanoes and Carlsbad Caverns national parks and at the Muir Woods and White Sands national monuments.

Dave Woodside, president of Acadia Corp., told the newspaper in an email that the judgment ends his company’s efforts to appeal the decision and that the company will continue to operate its retail stores in downtown Bar Harbor during the summer months.
