Acadia Hospital CEO steps down

David Proffitt, president and CEO of a Bangor mental health hospital recently cited for safety violations, has resigned.

Proffitt led The Acadia Hospital, part of the Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems network, for more than two years, according to a press release. EMHS will begin to search for a new CEO immediately, and will name an interim leader soon.

In January, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration fined the hospital $11,700 for failing to provide a safe working environment for employees and improperly documenting workplace injuries. The fines and investigation were prompted by complaints from an employee over increased worker injuries.
