Attorney General Janet Mills said her office has received a complaint out of Cumberland County about the work of a Massachusetts contractor who faces $716,000 in unpaid fines in that state for operating without a license.
Mills’ office issued a warning about doing business with handyman Richard Myers of Hanover, Mass., who has been known to operate under the business name of Atlantic Restoration Co. The Patriot Ledger reported he has also done business under the name R.T. Myers & Sons Inc.
Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley’s office first sued Myers in 2006 for engaging in home improvement work on a suspended license and failing to perform agreed-upon work, apply for required building permits and requesting “excessive cash advances.” In 2011, a Massachusetts court issued a final order against Myers that, in addition to civil penalties, permanently banned him from soliciting or engaging in home improvement work in Massachusetts.
Mills said Mainers should be “on guard” about hiring Myers for home improvement work.
