Airports receive more than $5M

Another batch of Maine airports is receiving funding from the FAA for upgrades, with the largest chunk going to the Portland International Jetport.

The Portland airport will receive more than $4.2 million for phase two of its runway safety area construction, according to a press release from U.S. Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins. The airport is in the midst of a $75 million terminal expansion.

Five other airports in Maine are receiving a total of nearly $933,000:

  • $509,947 for Northern Maine Regional Airport in Presque Isle for purchasing a snow loading machine and other upgrades;
  • $181,794 for Robert Lafleur Airport in Waterville for runway rehabilitation;
  • $34,786 for Knox County Regional Airport for runway and aircraft parking area rehabilitation;
  • $130,000 for Lincoln Regional Airport to conduct an environmental impact study for obstruction removal;
  • $76,000 for Belfast Municipal Airport for the acquisition and conversion of a hangar to house snow removal equipment.
