Airports see more passengers

Maine's major airports are reporting strong numbers in the midst of a recession.

The Portland International Jetport reported its best third quarter ever, serving 565,208 passengers in July, August and September, surpassing its previous best third quarter, which was in 2008, by 1.5%, according to a press release. The airport also saw its best October ever, with 162,323 passengers. The previous best October was recorded in 2007. However, year-to-date passenger numbers are down slightly compared with last year.

The Bangor International Airport also this week released its monthly passenger numbers, reporting a 2.9% growth in passengers in October compared with October 2008, according to data from the airport. Year to date, passenger numbers are up 8.4%.
