More jobs cut at BIW

Another 23 employees will be temporarily laid off from Bath Iron Works as the shipyard waits for work on its next project to hit full speed.

The last day for the 23 preservation technicians will be Dec. 4, according to The Times Record. The shipyard has made a series of temporary layoffs as work on the DDG-51 destroyer wraps up and the shipyard moves into building the new DDG-1000 destroyer. Jim DeMartini, a BIW spokesman, told the paper that work on the new destroyer class is "ramping up slower than we originally planned."

The shipyard earlier this month announced 191 workers would be temporarily laid off by mid-month, and another 166 workers were cut in three rounds of layoffs in June.
