The competition is growing for Allen's Coffee Flavored Brandy, though the drink is still, by far, Maine's preferred alcoholic beverage.
The Bangor Daily News reported sales of Allen's declined for the third year in a row, while its sales remain more than $8 million higher than the second highest-earning brand.
New to the list of the state's top 20 liquors, the competing Mr. Boston Coffee Flavored Brandy has in the past two years seen steady sales increases in Maine, though its total sales remain only 5% of Allen's year-end figures.
Allen's is owned and produced by the Somerville, Mass.-based M.S. Walker; Mr. Boston is produced by the Metarie, La.-based company Sazerac. The brand was originally founded in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston in 1933.
