A Best Buy location in the Topsham Fair Mall will be closing on Oct. 29.
“We made the decision not to renew the lease, and we don’t takes these decisions lightly,” Kevin Flanigan of Best Buy public relations, told The Times Record. “As any retailer does at the end of a lease, they decide that some stores don’t make sense. We reviewed our business portfolio, and overall the sales weren’t quite strong enough.”
Flanigan told The Times Record that slowing sales weren’t the only reason for the decision to not renew the lease, saying that changes in customer patters, increasing lease costs and overall store performance all contributed to the closure.
Full-time employees of the Topsham location have been encouraged to apply at any of the four other Best Buy locations in the state in Bangor, South Portland, Augusta and Auburn, where Flanigan told The Times Record they will receive a “leg up on the competition.”
