Androscoggin Bank foundation issues grants to help at-risk kids

Androscoggin Bank's MainStreet Foundation awarded $10,000 to four nonprofit organizations helping at-risk kids in Maine be safe, healthy, active, happy, educated and nourished.

The grants are issued each quarter to organizations that help kids thrive, the bank said in a release announcing the first-quarter allocations.

The recipients are:

  • Maine Inside Out, Portland: $2,500.
  • My Place Teen Center, Westbrook: $2,500.
  • Somali Bantu Community Association of Maine, Lewiston: $1,500.
  • The Progress Center, Norway: $3,500.

"It is our privilege to provide support for nonprofit organizations that deliver measurable outcomes with long-term benefits for at-risk youth in Maine," Steve Closson, chairman of Androscoggin Bank's MainStreet Foundation, said in a news release.

In 2016, the foundation awarded a total of $48,210 in quarterly grants.

It also accepts applications from May 1 through July 31 each year and selects one winner for the annual $25K for Kids grant, awarded to a nonprofit that makes a positive impact in the lives of as many kids as possible. Last year’s grant went to the Preble Street Teen Center in Portland.

The MainStreet Foundation is Androscoggin Bank's $1 million foundation that issues quarterly grants based on need.

Androscoggin Bank reported assets of $902.2 million for the year ended Dec. 31, 2016.
