Androscoggin Bank will close its branch on Subaru Drive in Auburn this spring, leaving the city with one branch.
The closure was listed in a Maine Bureau of Financial Institutions notice and confirmed by Androscoggin Bank spokeswoman Nicole Haggerty. She said the planned closure date is April 30.
"The decision to close this branch location is directly related to its proximity to our nearby branch at 683 Minot Ave. in Auburn, located only 3 miles away," she told Mainebiz. "Subaru Drive was closed for extended periods during the pandemic and most clients permanently transitioned to using the Minot Avenue branch. This decision also took into consideration how we should allocate our people and resources to ensure we continue to best meet the needs of our clients and employees."
Noting that no jobs will be impacted by the closure, Haggerty said that the three staff members working at the Subaru Drive branch will relocate to nearby branches in Lewiston and Auburn.
"We remain steadfast in our commitment to our retail banking branches, and we do not have any plans to close other locations," she added.
Meanwhile in northern Maine, Androscoggin Bank recently opened a business development office in the Piscataquis County town of Guilford, which is open every Monday by appointment.
The office is housed in the former Guilford Medical Building, which the town plans to use as a business development hub and has renamed the CH Lightbody Municipal Center.
Services offered by Androscoggin Bank in Guilford include Treasury and government deposits, commercial and government financing and wealth management.
“We are excited to open this business office," said Neil Kiely, Androscoggin Bank's president and CEO. “Androscoggin Bank has strong government and commercial banking capabilities which we will bring to Piscataquis County. We hope our focus in this area will benefit the towns, schools, small businesses and industries of greater Piscataquis County,”
Androscoggin Bank is ranked No. 11 among the largest Maine-based banks in the 2024 Mainebiz Book of Lists, just behind Gorham Savings Bank at No. 10. The rankings are based on assets as of June 30, 2023.
