Anthem donates $100K for nursing lab

Nursing education at Central Maine Community College in Lewiston recently received a $100,000 boost from the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation.

The gift from the foundation will help CMCC develop a new, high-tech laboratory to train nursing students on life-like patient simulators, according to a press release from the foundation. The simulation center will give nursing students clinical experience in a safe environment, and help combat a nursing shortage in the state. According to the foundation, the state has more than 1,000 nursing vacancies, and that number is expected to grow to 5,000 by 2020.

The Anthem Foundation previously gave a large grant to Northern Maine Community College to create a similar laboratory for nursing and EMT students.
