Architects duke it out for Old Port block redesign

The winning architect for a competition to redesign a block of Portland’s Old Port is expected to be announced next week.

The Portland Press Herald reported that architects from three Portland-based firms are vying for the winning redesign of buildings at 432, 434, 436 and 446 Fore St. and 42 and 50 Wharf St. Brian Curley of PDT Architects, David Lloyd of Archetype and Patrick Costin of Canal 5 Studio are the competing architects, and one will be announced as the winner on Oct. 17.

After being foreclosed on in 2011, the buildings were purchased for $5.6 million by Dream Port 3 LLC, an investment and development arm of U.S. Real Estate Advisors in New Jersey. The approximately 50,000 square feet of building space currently includes Buck’s Naked BBQ, Gorgeous Gelato and other commercial tenants.
