Aroostook mall loses two more tenants

The Aroostook Centre Mall in Presque Isle is losing two more tenants after national retailers Sears and Staples both announced that they would be pulling out.

The Bangor Daily News reported that national retailer Deb Shops and The Maine Jump-Presque Isle, a family entertainment center, are leaving the mall.

Deb Shops is in the process of closing 287 stores across 42 states after declaring bankruptcy in December, the newspaper said. The stores will close once all inventory is sold.

Jenna Spoto, owner of Maine Jump, cited the mall’s rent as a factor in its closing, adding that “Maine … Presque Isle … and especially The Aroostook Centre Mall make it hard for small businesses to succeed.” Maine Jump closed its doors on Monday.

Staples announced last month that it would close its Presque Isle mall location in February, a month after Sears was expected to close its store there.
