Author of medical journal joins top brass at Woodlands Senior Living

Woodlands Senior Living's new COO and chief clinical officer is a medical and nursing journal author as well as the first person outside of the family-owned business to serve in the position of chief operating officer. 

Leann Sebrey’s first day at Woodlands was May 1. She brings three decades of health care experience to the position and has worked in trauma, pediatrics, emergency care, mobile advanced life support and home health and hospice.

Sebrey joins Woodlands Senior Living after most recently serving as the CCO at Androscoggin Home Healthcare + Hospice in Lewiston for more than five years. 

“I vacationed in Maine and was drawn to the people and strong sense of community and then made the decision to relocate to the midcoast from Pennsylvania,” said Sebrey. “To live and work in Maine is an honor and as health care providers, we are taking care of our own neighbors in our own communities.

"I feel that there is a strong essence of collaboration, yet independence, in Maine, and therefore, partnerships and trusted relationships are built into the fabric of Maine life," Sebrey continued. "From my perspective, this means we are accountable to offer our best as professionals, never forgetting we are also community members.”

Prior to joining Woodlands Senior Living, Sebrey also led teams at Maine Health Care at Home in Rockland; Quarry Hill in Camden; Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia; and Brandywine Hospital and Trauma Center in Cain Township, Pa. 

She served on the editorial board of Trauma Quarterly and authored "The Parent’s Guide to Baby Signs: Early Communication with Your Infant", published by Gallaudet University Press.

“Leann Sebrey’s reputation speaks volumes about her work ethic, knowledge, experience, and her understanding of providing valuable, meaningful care and service,” said Matthew Walters of Woodlands Senior Living. “She will be providing the leadership necessary at the executive level to drive our organization’s ability to deliver on our mission while directing the clinical operations and service model at Woodlands Senior Living communities throughout the state.”

Sebrey attended St. Joseph’s School of Nursing and Millersville University (Pa.) and holds degrees in nursing and science.

She is a member of the Organization of Maine Nurse Executives, the American Organization of Nurse Executives, the National Association for Home Care and Hospice, the Society of Pediatric Nurses and the American Holistic Nurses Association.

Woodlands Senior Living started in 1980 with a 39-resident boarding home in Hallowell. The organization has since grown to include 16 communities serving more than 700 residents in 10 locations, including Bridgton, Cape Elizabeth, Brewer, Lewiston, Rockland, Farmington, Madison, Waterville and Hallowell.

The organization is top heavy. While the front line workers are paid poorly. Hopefully she will fix this so turnover won't be such a big problem.
