Average ACA premium for Mainers: $99
Mainers paid a $99 monthly premium on average for insurance obtained through the Obama administration’s online marketplace, healthcare.gov, according to new federal figures.
The Bangor Daily News reported that Mainers who signed up for coverage through the Affordable Care Act paid slightly more than the national average of $82 per month, according to a new report from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Almost 90% of the more than 44,000 Maine residents who signed up for private coverage qualified for tax credits meant to offset monthly premium costs. Without the tax credits, the average premium for Mainers was $443 per month.
According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, the state average is approximately a third of the $282 monthly premium Mainers on average paid in 2010.
