Less than a month after it was acquired by a Boston private equity firm and then added a secondary investor, Stonewall Kitchen is acquiring a new brand of organic food products.
The York-based specialty food producer has entered an agreement to buy the Vermont Village brand of apple sauce and apple cider vinegar products, according to a news release Monday. Terms were not disclosed, but the deal is expected to be complete in September.
Vermont Village produces a variety of organic apple sauce and vinegars from its main facility in Barre, Vt., and two additional sites nearby. The company has distribution in over 13,000 retailers nationwide, according to its website, and employs about 35.
This season, Vermont Village said it produced 560,000 jars of apple sauce and 1.75 million snack cups of it.
Stonewall CEO John Stiker said in the release: "Our goal is to establish a leading premium branded specialty food platform, and we believe that Vermont Village will be a critical part of realizing on that vision. By leveraging our sales and marketing expertise, product development capabilities and other corporate support functions, we will drive exceptional growth of both brands.”
On Aug. 1, Stonewall Kitchen said it had been bought by Audax Private Equity from another PE firm, New York-based Centre Partners. Two weeks later, mezzanine capital provider Yukon Partners said it was supporting the acquisition.
Stonewall, founded in 1991, markets condiments, jams, sauces and other products under its own name, as well as the Tillen Farms brand of pickled vegetables and cocktail cherries; the Napa Valley Naturals brand of olive oils, balsamic vinegars and wine vinegars; the Montebello brand of organic pasta; and the Legal Sea Foods brand of seafood sauces and condiments.
