Baldacci receives toxic chemicals report

Manufacturers that sell products in Maine should warn consumers if their products contain toxic chemicals, according to a new state report.

The report issued yesterday by Gov. John Baldacci's Task Force to Promote Safer Chemicals in Consumer Products also recommends making a Web database of chemicals the state says are of "high concern," and help businesses and the University of Maine expand research in "green chemistry," or research into products that contain fewer or no hazardous chemicals, such as lead and pesticides. The entire report is available here.

Baldacci plans to submit legislation including recommendations from the report in the next few weeks, David Farmer, the governor's spokesperson, told Mainebiz.
